Five Ocean Facts

1) The oceans cover 71 percent of the planet and stores and distributes heat worldwide.

2) Heat movement through currents are what affect climate, weather conditions, stabilisation of global climate patterns and the delivery of nutrients and larva to marine ecosystems. 

3) There are two types of current motions - upwelling and downwelling. Current motions strongly influence the distribution and quantity of marine life.

4) Ocean currents are located at the oceans surface and at a depth of 300 metres. 

5) Paleontologists report that 250 million years ago , circulation at depth nearly stopped. The ocean became stagnate and low oxygen, sulfide and methane-rich waters  flooded the depth, reaching continental shelves and as a result 95 percent of marine species were wiped out.
