Since 1975, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori have hosted Māori Language Week from the 14th - 20th of September/Mahuru.
Māori Language Week is about revitalising, promoting and celebrating Te Reo.
You can support Māori by:
1) Learning Te Reo. Learning your pepeha is a good start:
Kia Ora Tātou
Ko (your mountain) Te Maunga
Ko (your waterbody) Te Awa
Nō (where you are from) Ahau
Ko (your family name) Tōku Whānau
Ko (your first name) Tōku Ingoa.
2) Support Māori owned businesses.
3) Support Māori artists, such as Anika Moa, Bic Runga, Boh Runga, Che-Fu The Musician, Fat Freddy's Drop, Ria Hall, Rob Ruha, SIX60, Stan Walker, TEEKS, the list goes on..
4) Embrace the Māori culture.
5) Educate yourself.
