Environment Minister Eugenie Sage MP has stated the government plans to phase out seven types of single-use plastic, including plastic straws and cutlery. Plastics difficult to recycle such as PVC and polystyrene will be phased out too.
“The level of plastic pollution in the oceans is unacceptable. It is distressing that birds, fish, whales and other marine mammals die from eating plastic which did not need to be made in the first place,” Eugenie Sage stated. “Businesses like Ecostore show how it’s possible to stand up against single-use and find new ways of doing things.”
The governments consultation document “Reducing the impact of plastic on our environment” is now open for submissions - https://www.mfe.govt.nz/…/reducing-impact-of-plastic-our-en… and closes on the 4th of November.
