Save The Waiau River

The Waiau Rivercare Group are calling for the Manapōuri Power Scheme not to be exempt from the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management (NPS-FM).
The Manapōuri Power Station consumes 64 percent of all surface water throughout New Zealand and unlike other power stations, water is sourced from the Waiau River and discharged directly to sea. As a result, the Waiau River is unsafe to swim in.
Exemption from the policy will remove the community's voice for the Waiau River for 50 years.
