Sea Lion Signs

Victory! The Clutha District Council and the Department of Conservation have agreed to install two signs at Pounawea to notify / educate the public about New Zealand sea lions.

This is a great development! If the public are unaware of their New Zealand sea lion residents, upon encountering them, they may feel frightened and develop misconceptions about sea lions. New Zealand sea lions can be territorial, but they are not violent by nature; male sea lions must fight each other in order to hold a harem.
