Thank you Robyn Edie at Stuff for coming out to my rubbish clean up at Daffodil Bay last month.
The benefits of getting involved in local rubbish clean ups are:
1) To prevent rubbish polluting our rivers and oceans.
2) To prevent rubbish defacing habitats, leaching chemical pollutants, threatening aquatic life and interfering with human uses of waterways.
3) To prevent animals consuming rubbish; it fills their stomachs, causing them to starve and concentrates toxins in their tissues. 267 species globally are affected by plastic pollution, including 86% of sea turtles, 44% of seabirds and 43% of marine mammals.
4) They are an opportunity to meet people.
5) They are an opportunity to do your part and take pride in your community.
My next rubbish clean up is at Invercargill Estuary Walkway on Saturday the 26th of September at 11.00am. Please bring your gloves, bags and keep cups to purchase a hot beverage from Cafe2u invercargill.
