Bottlenose Dolphin Swimming Ban

Bottlenose Dolphins are one of my favourite animals. They are intelligent, family oriented and playful.

Sadly Bottlenose Dolphins have been diminishing in numbers for years, as a result of tourism and irresponsible fishing.
Thankfully action is being taken - the New Zealand Government have banned swimming with Bottlenose Dolphins. The ban applies to tourism operators in the popular tourist destination Bay of Islands. According to Department of Conservation, since 1990 the number of Bottlenose Dolphins in the Bay of Islands has declined by 66% and the mortality rate among calves is 75% - the highest ever.
Did you know Mother Dolphins carry their deceased calf with them until they disintegrate?

The Bottlenose Dolphin swimming ban enacted by the Government is good news, as animals are lives that deserve respect.
