China Reclassifies Dogs As Pets

In the wake of coronavirus, China has created new guidelines on which animals can be bred for eating; dogs have been reclassified as pets, not livestock. According to China's Ministry of Agriculture, dogs can no longer be bred for food, milk, fur, fiber, medicine or for military or sports purposes.
Dog meat remains a delicacy in some regions, however as of the 1st of May 2020, Shenzhen became the first city to ban its consumption.
Dr. Peter Li, China policy specialist at Humane Society International stated "30 million dogs are killed each year for meat in Asia."
China's ruling is a major step in the right direction!
