Did you know New Zealand sea lions are the otariid (ear seal) that dive the deepest and for the longest? Females dive frequently and spend an average of 52.7 percent of their time submerged at an average of six metres. Their dive depth is an average of 164 metres, but females have been recorded diving to 550 metres! Their swimming speed is an average of 2.4 metres per second.
