Dr Liz Craig

Thank you Liz Craig MP for meeting me to discuss your New River Estuary restoration plans, rubbish waste and New Zealand sea lions!

Liz and her fellow Saving New River Forum members are developing exciting plans to restore Invercargill Estuary and establish the site as a hub. Unfortunately the state of the estuary is complex, as there are several factors to consider, including leaching from the old rubbish dump, old leaking stormwater drains, sewage overflow, and upstream agricultural run-off. Sea Society can attest to the leaching from the old rubbish dump; over the two rubbish clean ups we hosted at Invercargill Estuary a total of 660 kg of rubbish was collected.

Southland is a beautiful region with rare flora and fauna. Let’s all do our part to preserve it!
