Thank you to Danae Raivaru, Luke Suen, Pace Dylan, Benjamin Te Moananui and your son and Jasper van Proosdij and your girls for helping me to clean up Invercargill Estuary Walkway.
Between 1930 - 1950, Invercargill Estuary in Invercargill City Council and Environment Southland was the communities dumping site. In 1970, a causeway was built to prevent the waste from floating into the estuary. In 2004, the landfill was closed and converted into a recreation area.
We found waste that had been disposed of decades earlier; Woolworths plastic bags, copious food packaging and fishing lines.
If we all adopt a kaitiakitanga relationship with papatūānuku, we will be able to safeguard our home!
