Matariki

Well done New Zealand! Now that we have moved into level 1, we can begin attending events, such as the upcoming Matariki Festival in Auckland from the 20th of June to the 15th of July.
Matariki refers to a cluster of stars; in June/July, Matariki reappears in the dawn sky, which signals the start of the Māori New Year. It is a time to celebrate new life, remember the deceased and plan for the future; to enjoy kai (food), waiata (song), tākaro (games) and haka.
The nine Matariki stars are Matariki, Pōhutukawa, Waitī, Waitā, Waipuna-ā-Rangi, Tupuānuku, Tupuārangi, Ururangi and Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, all of which have different meanings.
Go on to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa for the best times to observe Matariki.
