New Zealand's Pyramids

Okia Reserve on the Otago Peninsula is a must see. Okia Reserve is where you will locate New Zealand's "Pyramids." They are two features that were formed during the first eruptive stage of the volcano on which Dunedin is built and are made of a dark rock called basalt. On the seaward side of the “Little Pyramid” (Te Matai O Kia), you will locate the cave; which is regarded as an important archaeological site.
15 minutes walk from the Pyramids is stunning Victory Beach; the longest beach on the Otago Peninsula and one of few mainland beaches known to be inhabited by the New Zealand sea lion.
Hats off to the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust and Dunedin City Council, who maintain this stunning reserve!
